As listed in the title box...Im getting a new truck and was curious what the fuel mileage was like on a truck spec'd like this? I dont plan on doing many, if any performance mods, Just a few appearance mods. So itll stay pretty much bone stock for a while.

If you get the truck with the standard 3.08s you get the aluminum block 5.3L with VVT and AFM. If you order the towing package(highly recommended) you get the iron block 5.3L(adds 80 lbs). But you also get oil cooler and transmission cooler and 3.45s.
With the 3.08s there will be quite a bit of gear hunting on hills, not as much with the 3.45s.
Even though the iron block adds weight I would still get the towing package because I don't like how these trucks feel with 3.08s.

The hot ticket with the Chevy trucks is a not well known option called the "max trailering package. You have to go LT or higher trim.
It is a 1500 with the 6.2l 403 hp motor and a 9.5" rearend, disc brakes, 3.73s. It is not a expensive package at all, but none of the dealers in my area carry it, and when I ask them about it I get blank stares. They would rather sell me a 2500. No thanks!
Expect 0-60 times to be in the 6.5 sec range or less and hwy mileage around 18-19 vs. a 5.3 in the 20-21 mpg range.

Good truck but it will be doggy and the gas mileage is generally so so considering the lack of performance.

Love my 6.2. No regrets.

If I had to get a 5.3, I would actually try to negotiate a killer deal on a 3.08 truck to get the aluminum block; then I would use some of the savings for 4.10s and a good tranny cooler.

Thanks guys! I'm going for fuel mileage 100%. Could care less about going from a dig or whatever. But the truck does have the trailering pkg. I can't have a truck without being able to tow. I even tow with the Tbss!!
