11 5.3 6sp or 08 6.0 4sp

looking at getting rid of the 07 rclb and need an ext. what would be faster and better towing, used 08 6 liter 4 speed or new 11 5.3 6speed

iamkeniff 11-30-2010 06:34 PM

5.3/6spd imo
the 6.0/4spd will be good too BUT lack gas mileage if it not loaded. i say get a 2500 6.6 diesel

How much weight /trailer size you gonna tow?

zervanj1 11-30-2010 07:22 PM

No problem withthe 5.3 & 3.42 gear ........ I tow 7000lb with 5.3 3.90 and 4 spd ....tows OK except in headwind needs 4.10 so I can stau in OD ......you should be fine ....with 5.3 6sp if mileage not a concern then yes the 6.0 will be better but as DD the mileage is not great on those motors

5.3/6-speed. You won't regret having an up-to-date transmission.

GMCtrk 11-30-2010 09:46 PM

I can't comment on the 6 speed directly, but a 6 liter with the 4l60e and 3.42 gears will get exceptional highway gas mileage, well over 20 mpg. It should also tow much better than the 5.3.

5.3/ 6 speed combo and slap in some 3.90s or 4.10. will tow like a beast IMO

Bowtie03 12-01-2010 12:47 AM

Just get the 5.3/6l80 and drive it a while then swap in a 6.0 lol

I do agree, getting the newer vehicle is a no brainer.
