Default Which way to go?

Tossing around a 88-98 body style project and I know I'm swapping in a LS motor, but I'm torn on which direction to go. I feel pretty confident in grabing an LQ4/4L80 combo and doing the swap, but I would love to scoop up an LY6/6L90 instead. How much more work would it be to get that setup running?

With the 6L90 you will have to run a seperate trans controller, but it appears there are a lot of options for that already. I'm contemplating a similar project using a '92-'99 4WD Suburban. IMHO, in the long run, the LQ4/4L80 set-up will be more relieable since you will be dealing w/ LESS electronics. I'm considering a 408 w/ an FLT 4l80 & maybe a Gear Vendors under/overdrive, but for now it's just wishful thinking since I don't have the 'Burb or scratch to do it yet. Good luck on what you decide & keep us posted.

There's a guy over here that put a flexfuel 5.3/6l80 into his '95 Yukon (PSWired) and another guy putting a flexfuel/afm 5.3 in his '97 Tahoe (harascho). Look up some of their threads. It looks like a shitload of work.

A lot of options for running a 6L90? Do tell. I'm only aware of couple. But I've been wrong before.

TVI, I must say a LQ4/ 4L80E w/. Gear Vendors would be cool.

BigCountry, it'll be cool either way. 88-98's have such a great look to them.

I forgot that PSWired also put a 6.0/80E in his '95 Z71 and made a website for it.

D'OH! My bad...I was thinking of controllers for 4L60/80E's for retrofit conversions when I was typing that. It's what I get for not proof reading & typing my post/eating my lunch at the same time...LOL. Could have been worse...might have looked like: "it appears there....mmmmmm...pastrami...are a lot....oh, yeah! CHIPS!....of options for....BURP!."

Yeah, I've been wanting to do a 4x4 Suburban for a while. Build an all-purpose family hauler to take on trips, camping, towing, etc. The '92-'98 are still 1 of my favorite bodystyles. Especially a lifted 4x4.
