Truck randomly dies!

This 2003 Tahoe that I got my wife is driving me insane. I have replaced the fuel pump, plugs & wires as maintenance. The truck died yesterday as I was driving it on the highway. Before this, it would shut off and come back on immediately. This could be a very dangerous situation if my wife was driving it. I need to get this fixed. I spoke with a mechanic and he mentioned the ignition switch. I am going to check all of the engine grounds today. Please help.

Thanks,

Ignition switches fail like crazy in these trucks. The passlock sensor will screw up aloty to and flash a security code across the dash. 10 to 1 I'd say ignition switch, the GM part number you need is 12450251.

Yeah, the security light did flash on the cluster this last time it happened. Thanks a lot!!!!:D

That didn't work. Still dies. :bang: I am at a serious loss.

bad battery?
anytime you lose then regain juice your security light is gonna flash. Just a thought.

I had this problem in a new Pontiac Boneville I had bought for my wife. It stayed at the dealership getting things replaced more than in my possession. Some things were replaced multiple times. The car would still die for no apparent reason randomly. I finally got them to buy the car back after much hassle. I took it to several dealerships and pontiac even claimed to have brought in a specialist to look at the car and they couldnt figure it out. It was dangerous and I wouldnt keep it. $30,000 piece of crap. I just hope they didnt resell the thing to someone else because it still was new with a whole lot of warranty left on it.

I wonder if it has to do with the Fuse box problem that they had for a while?

sleek silverado 07-05-2008 09:14 AM

Unfortunately, I bought this truck used with the mindset that I could fix whatever is wrong with it.

What was going on with the fuse box?

What about sensors like camshaft or crank sensor?

tarinitup 07-05-2008 09:56 AM

I had a similar situation with a camaro and it turned out to be the camshaft position sensor. I changed everything from coil packs, plugs, wires to battery until a mechanic fixed it $700 dollars later.
