Default Tire Size Question

So I want to install a 5/7 drop on my 06 RCSB V6.
Just picked up a set of transport steelies(22)

Goal is to still actually drive the truck, so want a set of tires that isn't going rub.
265/35?
Something else?
What have you guys run?

Man, I'd hope you wouldn't have to go that small. They're gonna look stupid. From experience; I had 265/40/22 on some Dub Ballers and they looked like I had donut spares, too narrow. The 35 series would be same width just shorter sidewall.

I'm more concerned with not rubbing then having the widest tires.
V6 isn't going to be limited by traction.

I hear you, but what I'm saying is they looked ridiculously skinny on the wheels. I switched to 285/40/22 and it was a big improvement. That's the size Tony (NORCALSS) suggests for the SS's with his 3/4 drop kit, the SS is already a little lower than stock to start with. That size may actually work for you on a regular Silverado with a 5/7, or maybe something a little shorter but same width like a 285/35/22? That's just barely 30" tall and still 11" wide, vs. almost 31" tall on the 285/40/22.

I've done 5/7 on plenty of GMT400's and have a decent feel for what fits, but haven't dropped any GMT800's yet so I'm at a little bit of a loss. Just offering my experience with a similar size as what you were considering and I would advise against it.

Fully understand the advice, it is exactly why I asked the question.

Someone told me 29inches was the magic number on the!GMT800 when below a 3/5 drop.
Unsure how much lower an SS is to a standard 2wd, would have to assume at least an inch.

Should also say I a man only really concerned about rubs that would hit the fender and risk damaging the paint.

I have a 4" drop with 275/40/20 without rubbing. These are around 29" tall... Debating going to 45's to raise it up slightly for a better ride, not sure they will fit though. Ideally I would throw some 50's on.

275/45/20 is most popular for your drop. 50 series probably won't fit. You don't need 275/40/20 until you're lower than a 4/6

Looking at 50 series diameters... and measuring my gap, I would tend to agree with you. I think 45's at this point will be a stretch. Drivers side has dropped about 1/2" more than the passenger side, assuming from whomever put miles on it in the drivers seat.

so the 5/7 requires a slightly smaller tire then the 4/6 drops?
