Thrown Belt?!?!?!?!?!?

I'm with Terravast4, get a new belt. That belt might be a good spare to limp you home if you ever break the new one. How did you check the alignment of the pulleys? If you eyed it up they could still be off. I would run a straight edge across each pulley, and make sure it stays parallel with the belt. The pulley could be in the right position, but cocked a little bit. How long have you been running the new alternator? Check to make sure all the pulleys turn freely by hand too.

Well I put about a 1000 miles on this new setup with tons of 6600rpm shift points dialing in my shifts and it didnt throw the belt. It did start after I installed the alternator and new belt as far as the squeeking is concerned. I had a good gates belt before hand but bought a cheapy to get me through til the blwoer goes on. I dont really see how the alternator could be out of alignment since the pins on the accessorie bracket center the alternator and the alternator is brand new.

What is the part number for the HD tensioner? Also is there two as I have two belts one for the accessories and one for the ac. I just bought new gates belts for 80 dollars.

Starting to lean towards it just being a cheapo belt. The belt is squeeking now too, I sprayed some lithium grease on it and the squeek went away. So a belt with less than 1K on it is stretching and squeeking already. So dont buy cheap belts

I had an issue like this. I finally figured it out after a couple of belts and a couple of tensiors were destroyed. Damn crank bolt had backed out and the balancer would wobble with quick throttle and release. I found out when I went to put the belt on..again...and the balance fell off the crank into my hand :o
Lock tite and an ARP crank bolt, no more issue.
