another devil's advocate post:
the NV3500 (stock 1/2 ton 5-speed) is only rated for 300 lb-ft of torque.
this was after his 454 swap but before the turbo 8.1
he ran that for a good while before deciding to do a T56 swap.
and i personally talked to the guys at Joe Gibbs Racing who built/tested their silverado packages - they kept the stock NV3500s with their supercharged 4.8s
not saying all transmission designs are more rugged than officially stated, but it sometimes happens. this, however, is far from common in the case of the 4L60's history.
lots of people don't really read all the way through threads before replying.

60e
I guess i'm another lucky guy, I swapped in a cammed NA 6.2
last summer. my stock (tuned) 60E 2800 stall has held up very well.
I'm only a little over 400 ft ls of TQ. it's a DD. under 4100lbs
no prob with the stock G-80 10 bolt in 8 years.

Launching!
I felt that I could easily have a 4L60 built to stand up to a supercharger, so much easier no mods, everything fits right. But I was not one of the lucky ones and after 6 dead 4L60s and in excess of $10,000 rebuilding transmissions. I gave up and went to the 4L80, I do hate the first gear in it tho. My last 4L60 was bone stock and lasted 5 years, non of my built 4L60s ever saw thier 2nd year before breaking. 2 of those came from Art Carr. I hope you can get the 60 to work that would be awesome. Not trying to sway you one way or another just letting you know for many of us it does not work out.

In the famous "Sent my 4L60 to transbuilder guy" thread, the new 4L75E gets mentioned - starts around page 17 and more info around page 19. Could be a great way to go depending on your power level, vs. going to 4L80E. Pricey at $3500 shipped but lets you stay with the same 3.06/1.62/1.00/0.70 setup, and it's rated at 650 lb-ft torque capacity.
