This is getting way up there in cost for 150 hp with a $1800 to $2300 performance tranny alone. Will be looking into beefing up the 60 or leaving the truck as is.
The conundrum is if you install boost, you WILL KILL a "beefed up" 60e. You'll chase a lot of cash down the drain trying to get a 60e strong enough to handle the power/weight ratio. Best off to build your drivetrain to handle 1000hp then boost that puppy 😁!!!

I can buy a built 60e for way less than a 80e from a reputable builder. Who here has destroyed a well built 60e with boost for street use? Plus I'd be happy with 4-500, not looking for 1000hp.

Well I'm moving on up to 80e this spring My n/a cammed 5.3 put strain on the 3-4 clutch packs (had freshened up before boost) had to upgrade some parts inside to handle more torque (+1k in extras, plus freshen up) not including the single disk converter- now I'm at 1700 + the original stage 4 of $2200 and original $450 3200 stall

I picked up a 2005 - 80e $400
Dipstick tube $35
Some wiring to add to pcm - meh had some
Weld a 3x3 piece of angle to cross member drill new slot - 10$
Shift kit with updateds- $150
SS lines with fittings $120
Converter $800
New tune- $35
Driveshaft will work for me but give you a idea I should've went this route long ago

Sorry hard to read the layout won't work right on my phone
EDIT again, easier to read, mobile version jacked it all up

A used 4L80e with a mild rebuild that you could do in the garage, a nice torque converter would handle the power you want.

No need to go out and spend $2-3,000+ on a built 80e when you aren't going for all out power.

I would have to do it like this awesome write up by KySilverado. https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...-4l80e-424904/
I am going to get in touch with the guys at PerfomaBuilt and Finish Line to see what they can do or advise. My thinking is if I'm going to spend $2k I would rather it bolt right up instead of modifying it all to fit. My budget was set for a Magnacharger so I'm good at that point with the cost of the Torqstorm but I just would prefer the ease of un bolting the old and bolting in the new. I just don't see why a well built 60e wouldn't handle the extra 150hp?
Also I have the G80 rear end so I should be good there.

If it's the 10 bolt it's not good for anything. G80 just means it has the factory low-bid locker in it (Eaton Gov-Loc) and it will blow up. The Gov-Loc has a bad reputation (nickname: Gov-Bomb) but honestly even if you didn't have the G80, just a regular 10 bolt, that is a weak link as well once you start building any amount of power.

If you aren't going for significant gains over stock then a "built" 4L60E might make it, might not. It's a gamble, with the factors mostly being how well it gets built and how much power you're making, how you drive it...along with just pure luck, the part that you have no control over.

Its the combination of increase hp/tq and the weight of the rig that will eventually kill a built 60e and the G80. My first engine mod was a strict 383 stroker swap and I had the 60e worked by my builder using all quality parts (he advised against it) but I persisted. I killed the puppy in 6 months - put in another 60e and again toasted the 3/4 clutch pack in no time. After spending nearly $4,500 chasing the elusive bulletproof 60e, I spent $300, for a used '99 80e, $1,050 for a Stage III rebuild kit from Jakes, $980 for a triple disc Circle D converter, $95 for a new slip yoke, maybe $150 for new cooler lines, $145? for the crossmember from DirtTrackRacer and poof - it has survived the 408 so far and I beat the living crap out of this thing. I know its an added expense but I can't relay the relief I have knowing that once I add the TorqStorm supercharger, I'll be good.

regardless of what you decide to use just know you WILL destroy you stock trans and rear end. Be proactive not reactive
