Default Steering play/rattle

Getting a pretty good amount of play and rattle in my steering on my 05 with 64k miles. I figured it would be a ball joint or tie rod end but after crawling under the truck I didnt see anything that looked like it needed to be replaced. I check the steering rack with drivers side off the ground and the passengers side on the ground with the steering locked I was able to get some pay in what looked like the steering rack. Is it common for these steering racks to go bad? Also I know the 2500 trucks suffered from a steering shaft issue. Do the 1500's have the same problem?

The bushing on the steering shaft under the dash was shot on mine. Replaced it and all is better
