i sold that truck and missed it so much i bought another 04 rcsb, this time around im installing a H/C/I lq4 with a 4l80e and just doing a 4/6 drop, 20" yukon rims with 255/45/20's should be a fun reliable DD with 380/400 wheel HP nothing to right home about but should get me in the low13's if lucky maybe high 12's not sure since its only a 3.42 gear that i might just keep since i do a LOT of eway driving my last truck had a 4.10 and it was turning 2800/3000 every time i was on the highway witch caused it to push some all from just about every gasket on that engine lol

as stated i would not do the 60e i smoked mine with a stock 4.8, i never had a blower i really was thinking about one for this truck but some friends have them (13 gt500 & 17 zo6) seams they always have a problem with belt slip or heat soak and those cars come with them from the factory, others with aftermarket setups have issues with crank pulleys and belts when they beat on them so it turned me off from them if i go FI it will be turbo i like you can turn boost up or down on demand
Good info! It seems like a 4/6 drop checks a lot of boxes .
And if in the budget a supercharger wpuld be ideal for a fun reliable daily .

My 10 reg cab is my daily and it's about perfect for the duty. It's a solid 500 rwhp that is reliable as it is gonna get, drives nice with lots of throttle and is smooth until I wind it up and let it sing, then it's like a harrier just landed on your hood...

My perfect would be an 03 to 07 truck with at least a 2/4 drop and a cam/headers 6.2 with a 6 speed auto and at least 3.73 gears. That's just me though... and no the powertrain would not be a ton of fun to make work but it's been done. No blower, no turbo, no monster camshaft and maybe even retain the VVT like the trucks use. I like simple. I do however prefer the newer transmissions over the 4 speeds..... if the 10 speed turns out to not be a fail like the 8 speed is I would like to see it retrofitted too.

Now that a 6Lx0 controller exists it's not hard to put a 6spd in anything. Just isn't cheap either.

Meh... in theory. You don't find anyone actually doing it and you will never have gear indication on the stock cluster if you do. Minor details lol.

And that's retaining the stock Gen 3 engine and controller..... fug that. Do it right and get a modern controller in there that can handle things like VVT lol.

I like the older body styles also. The 10 has a lot of technology that makes it safer, auto track, stabilitrack, 6L80, tap shifter, traction control, onstar and airbags everywhere. Makes it better suited for DD when its raining and or wife is driving...

I can't stand that stability and traction control stuff especially on winter ice roads like I get 6 months of the year. It's honestly why I prefer driving my 05 over my 2017. That said with the 17 now that I have a detroit locker in the back ( like every other truck I have listed in that signature) it has defeated the stability control substantially. If I just do the 1 touch off of traction control the stability control is more or less useless with both rear tires constantly locked and it drives more or less like my 05. Pressing and holding the button is a waste of time on the 14 up trucks as stability just comes back on around 30 mph anyway. I call that a win!

How much is the controller to operate the six speed while leaving everything else be?

It's looking like I might be getting my hands on a L33, which I think I will just do a drop in Cam Motion cam and call it good. However at 175k miles, I wonder sometimes how my 4l60e is doing haha

So at least for me, that is my DD goals. A bit more power than the bolt on 4.8 I'm rocking now, but I don't want to do boost or anything like that, I want to feed this truck 87 octane fuel. I cringe at the 60 cent jump for 93 as I fill up my Camaros... I see that the cost for a 6l80e seems to vary from $1500 to 3000? I'm tempted to look at T56 swap threads at that price... I do enjoy rowing my own gears so I might lean towards that.

GM 6L45E 6L50E 6L80E 6L90E TCM2650 transmission controller harness

PATC has one too, but I couldn't easily find it. I thought theirs was in the $700 range

Oof. I dunno...rowing gears in a daily truck is weird for me .Though I do miss shifting I'm sure I'd get annoyed in traffic everyday real quick.

So guys, what's usually the best starting point for all of this? Work my way from the 3.73 rear end, 4 link, to the trans/stall, trans cooler, then suspension, then 5.3 swap and go from there?
