Need help!!! Hood latch cable may have broke!

Pull the kick panel off and look at the latch itself where it mounts to the body. The plastic retainers broke on my 2000 and I fixed it with some rivets. When the retainers broke, it allowed the assembly to rotate when the latch was pulled, thus not pulling the cable.
