My buddies new 2001 Z71 and I raced
 

He just got it tonight and it is a ext.cab Z71 with the 5.3 and 3.73 gears.My truck and mods are listed below in my sig.Well we went to a stop light and when it turned green I beat him about 4-5 lengths or so until I quit at 60MPH, I was pullin pretty hard,then we were cruisin side by side at 50MPH and we both punched it at the same time.From 50MPH to 80MPH I only got him by 1 length.I was happy when we raced from the stop light but when I only beat him by 1 length from 50-80 kind of bothered me.
What do you guys think of this?I also have 177,100miles on my truck with the original engine and his has 48,000miles.By the way his is bone stock,even the exhaust.
Do yall think I am out of line here.I know the 5.3's are better but with all of my mods I thought I would have a little more top end than I have.

Good deal.... :cheers: These ls1 based engine are top end beasts.... Put a HPP3 on that truck, and he will pull on you from a roll.

I think I am just expecting to much out of my truck.I know I could take off the line with noproblem but when we were racing from 50-80MPH I was kind of upset about onoly beatin him 1 length.But I did smoke em off the line big time.

yea thes new engines pull like crazy on the top end.

yeah they do,mine pulls like crazy down low though,from off idle to about 4500RPM it is strong as hell then after that it starts to go down a little.

I think another thing is that your buddy's truck weighs more than your truck being a Z71. So, I think he has to struggle more than you. But, like you said-from a roll, its a different story. Just my .02
