Lug nuts sanity check pls

I found a missing lug nut on my truck and checked the rest of them and they were loose as fk.

What style should I be using? Acorn style or flat/washer style?

Wheels are Procomp D shaped 17in.

I have an email out to Procomp now.

thanks

Pretty certain it's the acorn style. I know that's what I use and have never had an issue.

If the wheel has taper inside the lug hole you need tapered lugs for sure. If its flat you need a flat based lug.

Stock wheels take acorns.

Aftermarket could be almost anything.

ProComp confirmed tapered lugs.

I guess I can get pissed off now at who installed them.

This could have ended badly.

Def check your install torque. I just looked it up and its 140 ft lbs. I myself had been doing 120. Opps.

I tend to trust people. Never again.

I drove to south GA weekend before last and my grandfather saw one lug missing. I checked the rest of the wheels and had to put about 1.5 turns to get them all tight.

I'm not happy.

Soundz like d00d was fantasizing about being on a NASCAR pit crew, threw the wheel up on there, and went to town with his air gun and slippy stick. Failed to notice that your truck is NOT NASCAR and doesn't have a positive wheel locating thing such that it's guaranteed to be in the correct spot without actually putting forth a few milliseconds of ATTENTION TO WHAT HE WAS DOING.

Humans. Damn I'll be glad when they reassign me to a new planet where the "dominant" species is more logical, rational, conscientious, humble about their own shortcomings, and intelligent. I miss the days.

In my dreams.

120, 140, even 110 would have held them on. They were very likely not tightened nearly enough, or someone tried to gank your wheels in the middle of the night and got interrupted. It happens.

FWIW I don't trust anyone to install my wheels but me.

Someone tried to steal my wheels years back, noticed a slight knock/thudding noise from the front end on the highway at about 75 one night. Next thing I know all 6 lugs were sheered off, rotor went through the wheel, tire blew up, wheel and tire flew off down the road as I slammed onto the rotor and sent sparks flying. Luckily no one was near and 2 lanes over, got her over to the side of the road safely. That was an absolute wild ride.

Ever sine then I have visually checked all my wheels before I get in the truck.
