I had a jeep with a 5.2 liter in it...
They are light and fast as hell for what they are. AWD makes them what they are though. I think they were like3800 lbs. stock for an older AWD v8.
you can brake stall them to like 2000 bone stock and launch pretty good. Get A stall convertor and its all over.

Sorry for the RANT but there are NO ALL WHEEL DRIVE GRANDS, they are full time 4wd, PLEASE PLEASE don't make the mistake of thinking it's the same. Thats like saying an AWD 5.0 explorer is a 4x4. Sorry for the rant.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Highlights
The 2004 model closes out Grand Cherokee's current design generation by adding an available navigation system and a top-line 2-wheel-drive version. Jeep's flagship comes in Laredo, Limited, and top-line Overland trim. All are 5-passenger, 4-dr wagons. Laredo and Limited come with an inline 6-cyl engine, Overland with a V8. The V8 has 235 hp in base form, 265 in high-output tune standard on Overland and optional for Laredo and Limited. Both engines use automatic transmission, a 4 speed for the 6 cyl, a 5 speed for the V8s. Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard. Grand Cherokee offers rear-wheel drive, Jeep's Selec-Trac 4WD that can be left engaged on dry pavement, or all-wheel-drive systems called Quadra-Trac and Quadra-Drive. The 4WD and AWD systems have low-range gearing. For '04, Overland is available in 2WD as well as AWD. Head-protecting curtain side airbags are standard on Overland, optional on other models. The navigation system is integrated with a new radio that incorporates a small map screen. Power-adjustable pedals and a tire-pressure monitor are available. The redesigned 2005 Grand Cherokee retains 5-passenger seating, but styling and suspension change, and a V6 and Chrysler's 5.7-liter Hemi V8 join the engine lineup.

It isn't an all wheel drive system, to figure that out all you need to do is look at the transfer case numbers or head over to jeeps unlimited. Sorry, full time four wheel drive, even jeep says that.

are you trying to tell me what i know and don't know.
Used to own a lifted grand over 7" on 35's. Swapped in two Transfercases, and bot axles. Yes there are differences between full time 4wd and other 4x4 sytems out there. If you want to go f**king tecnical then we can. The reason I said awd is becasue the 5.9's come with np242 transfercases while all the other ZJ body style grand cherokees with v8's come with np249 cases. The 249 is a Full time transfercase. You can't switch out to other modes. There is a 4 wheel hi and a low. Hence the awd statement for short.(meaning all the wheels turning power). The other case is a selectable case between 4 wheel auto and 4wheel hi, and low.
If you want to continue to rant, you can go on for days. The thing is that nobody really cares. This is a ls1 based truck forum, not a jeep forum, and 99.9% of the guys here don't give a rats *** if you say awd, 4wd, etc... we arent offroading here, we are racing. hence this post. Bottom line is i sad awd for short.... not 4x4 selc-trac option, launching in 4 wheel Hi, ...blah blah blah
And once again, this is not a JEEP forum.
