hooking up trans temp gauge
if i were to install my autometer phantom trans temp gauge using the socal overhead mount, is there enough wire to run to the transmission? since having to go from the overhead up and around. Heres what it has with it:
ncludes 1/8" NPT Sender. Air-Core meter movement. Includes 3/8"" NPT adapter/fitting. Includes 1/2"" NPT adapter/fitting. If mounting in a steel pan, model 2260 bung in the Accessories Section is recommended. is that everything i need to hook it up to the trans? is there a better choice for the sender as i think thats what will hook into the trans to read. I thought someone mentioned a different part to use as it gets better readings but im not sure. this stuff is new to me hooking up but ill figure it out. |

Where exactly are you planning on mounting the temp sending unit? There is a boss in the side of the trans that has threaded accepts in it, and that's where I installed my first one, but it didn't get any kind of accurate reading. Since it basically works off of the heat coming from the case, you don't get an accurate temp of your trans fluid. I have found that the best way is to just drill you a boss in the pan and weld in your bung, and install the sending unit there. You can, if you want, use JB Weld on the bung instead of actually welding it in. Just grind an inch circumfrence circle around where you are going to mounth the bung, and evenly spread the JB Weld. Take extra attention to spreading it into all the seams and smoothing it out. Spread a little on the inside of the pad around the bung too. Let it dry and you can sand it smooth and them shoot a bit of paint on it or just paint the whole pan. Then presto...looks professional.
