getting rid of abs

Well my brake lines are getting so rusty and fragile that I already broke 2 brake lines this winter. so this summer Im running all new ss brake lines, while Im at it I thought of pulling the abs pump/unit under the cab, Ive had the fuse pulled and the bulbs in the cluster for the abs removed for the past 2 years with no problems and I have no abs just like i wanted. If i completly removed the abs unit that all the lines go into will it mess with anything else?

Yes, it will explode:bomb:

I got rid of my abs by eating too much and drinking too much beer. You can't see them at all now.

Seriously, isn't there no proportioning valve when you have ABS? If not, you would have to do something to lessen the rear bias. I remember some '80s GM pickup had a valve with a lever on it, it increased rear bias as the bed was loaded.

^^^damn it...thats what I was gonna post...:jest::jest:

I have removed the whole system before...yeah you need to put in a proportioning valve...you can buy them at your local parts store.

However.....
If you have an accident and they notice your ABS is gone...I don't know what the ramifications of that would be.

I have been wondering this also.. i have been driving with no ABS fuse for about 4 years. So you people are saying, that if you have a proportioning valve for your rear brakes that it will mess up if you remove your whole unit? wouldn't it be messed up already if he had the fuse removed already?

No the proportioning is done in the ABS unit...as far as I know.

So you would have to put a prop valve in if you removed ABS totally. Not a big deal, just DOT may have different opinions of it...thats all I'm saying.

Maybe they wouldn't care...who knows.

Not anymore, O'reillys no longer sells them due to liability.

Toyota had them, load sensing proportioning valve. Or get an adjustable one from your favorite race parts supply house.

Weird...you can buy them here...its what you use for brakes on a hot rod..adjustable. Or you can buy a stock replacement for something pre ABS. Like a 90's pickup.

if insurance were to invetigate i really doubt they would cover it.

i had thought about it too but the abs will brake better with it activated than 90% of drivers. you could brake better without it but you would have to have some skill and the brakes would need be dialed in perfect. changing weight on the front and rear would also change characteristics as it would apply more weight over a single axle changing how brake load was applied. imo dont do it . abs can save your life.

or you could completely remove your front brakes and save some weight.
