Default Gauge cluster not powering down.

I recently bought a late 99 4x4. Guy put alot of money and work into truck for his 15yr old son. Then change the ignition tumbler and vats locked him out. I got the truck really cheap with new motor and transmission. With the help of hp tuners. I drove it on the trailer.
Now the problem I am having is even when the key is out the security light flashes and the prnd321 screen stays on. Which runs the battery dead. I have tried grounding the driver door switch so it shows the door to be open. I have tried a new ignition switch. Have tried new kew tumbler and housing. Gauge cluster only powers down if key is all the way back in accessory position. The when key is in off position it powers back on. Any help would be amazing.

Would think it would have to be in the tumblr since the problem started from there.

I’m going to say the ignition switch was incorrectly installed. Remove the switch and rotate the gear one way or the other and reinstall it and see if that helps. You may have to do it a few times to get it in the proper location

The ignition switch is still out. If I roll it all the way back the lights shut off. But if I install it like that with the key in the off position then the key doesn't roll forward enough to start the truck. If I move it one click forward only the prnd321 panel comes on and security light. If I roll it one more forward then all my dash lights come on. Then roll forward once more to start.

I have a 02 that the key doesn't roll backwards at all past the off position. But any other trucks iv had you roll it backwards for acc power.

thanks for the replays and any help

The guy I got it from said his son rolled the key way far backwards. And he had to drill out the tumbler to get it out. That was the reason for him replacing tumbler. When I took it all apart I noticed he slightly drilled into the black gear that joins the tumbler and ignition switch. That's why I changed the housing. But I still have the steering column tore apart until I fix this problem. He also had the battery disconnected when I showed up to get the truck which makes me think he knew about the problem.

That switch is finicky.

If it isn’t perfect it’ll cause all kinds of issues.

They also make that switch for accessory and non accessory as well.
