Okay, has anyone deleted their front diff and still driven the truck? I swear I am not crazy and this would be temporary. I am wanting to see if the CV axle ends on these trucks compress the front hubs to hold the bearings together. I have seen on some other vehicles where this is the case. Also I would like to know what they did for a transfer case yoke since it is a slip for the electronic transfer case. Once again, I am not crazy, there is a method to the madness.

What year truck? Some one on here with a 2005ish truck runs no CV axles and 4wd hubs without issue

Yes, The cv does hold the front bearing assm together so you would need to change those out to 2wd hubs. The transfer case has a sealed internal spline so you can just take the driveshaft out and run without it.

If you have some old cv axles you can take them apart and put the stub in.

Right...a year would have been helpful. It's a 2000.

Not on all models it doesn't. Ive shown this in detail here with pics. Not only that, it is common on lots of makes and models to now run 4wd (non-locking style) hubs on all 2wd trucks. The 2wd trucks will have splined inputs from the factory. Saying they are always 2wd/4wd specific (and held together by the axle) is outdated and incorrect information.

Mine is apparently one of the models that are different. Nothing to retain the bearings without the axle. I was hoping to be able to drop the axle and rebuild everything related while still operating the truck. Bummer

if its an NBS then no. I wish i can find the pics of when i was dumb enough to try running my SS without front anxles in order to do burnout, i think i made it half a mile out of my neighborhood and had my front suspension collapse.
Had to get a flat bed tow truck to drag my truck onto the back because my wheels wouldnt roll. Lol
