Swapping a 99-02 to the newer 03-07 classic front clip is very common.

I know on a 2001-2002 The HD front end swap from the same year to a non-HD front requires only a different grill, and bumper cap. The reason its not a simple straight over swap is because the HD has a 2 inch body lift. That would create a gap, and why when doing the swap over, people cut off part of the frame, and cut enlarge the holes. Its not too much work if you have the tools to cut the metal and the willingness to do it. I looked into it too, and then decided I didn't want to cut the frame for it, and just used the stock grill. Yes, the 03-07 front clip is a straight swap. The 2002 HD hood is a straight hood swap to a 2001-2002. If the HD clip swaps to a 03-07 classic then it should swap over to 2000-2002 also.

The grille on the 01-02 HD dip down into the upper bumper cap unlike the 1500. So they are specific to that set up.

On the 03-07 classic the grille is the same between a 1500 and a 2500. The upper bumper pad is taller on the HD but you can run a standard 1500 upper bumper cap .

So can I put a standard 1500 03-07 front clip on it and an hd hood and it would bolt up fine?

The 03-07 clip will bolt on fine. The 01-02 HD hood is a direct swap to the 01-02 classic, I do not know about the 03-07 HD hood.

Yes, The 05-up HD hood and grille will bolt right on to a pair of fenders from 03-07 classic.

You can use an HD hood with out the HD grille and upper pad.

I believe the reason you have to lower the bumper frame mounts was due to the taller bumper pad and lower grill center to fit. When I had my 2000 I just ordered a new hood OEM HD hood when I had my truck repainted.

At the time, All the yards near me wanted $450 for a used hood and they were hard to come by. It was a wash with my discount at the dealer so I just Went New. It had to be painted any way...
