Engine ID

Just purchased a used engine. Can't locate the 9 digit vin derivative anywhere on the block. Only laser etched numbers I'm finding are on the heads. There are some barcode label however, located on the rear of one head, side of the block and oil pan. All 3 labels have the same number *10XFA W990746060* Anyone have any info? Thanks!

Should be a cast in part number on the bell housing side of the block.

whats the head casting number? Got any photos of the entire engine? Is the accessory drive off?

I know it's an early 4.8 from the casting #'s. I was looking for the 9 digit ID#/VIN derivtative that is supposed to be laser etched on the left rear of the block. This way I could get some history on the engine. But since I can't find it anywhere on the block, these labels are the only thing I have to go by.

Those labels mean nothing to us. There used on the assembly line.

The last 6 or 8 of the vin are on the back of the block on a pad in a dot matrix pattern. Still pretty useless as you need to know what it came out of. I have had as many as 4 vins for different applications match up. In my case I had complete vins from donors and I knew what the application was.for the parts I needed.

If the person never took the vehicle in for service, What is the vin going to tell you that you already don't know?

Okay, thanks. Just though I'd give it a shot.
I know the VIN derivtative/block ID# is supposed to be dot matrix/laser etched on the left rear of the block, but it isn't. The only dot matrix/laser etched numbers I've located are on the heads and I've never seen/heard of those before.
