Default did my tranny blow?

2000 gmc rcsb 4.8. last night i was pulling out of walmart, i didnt hardly get on it and there was this POW. and it reved up. it was still in drive but it was just revving up it wouldnt go. so i put it in park then in drive. same thing. so i put it in 1st. it drove. so i got maby 2 miles down the road. POW again. i lost 1st gear to. so my friend towed me home. when i got home i pulled my rearend cover off. all my gears were srtipped. so i said thats better than my tranny blowing. so today i got a new rearend and put it in. i started it put it in drive. it wouldnt go. it just sat there and revved up. then i put it in first. it went. i got on the road and shirted 1st 2nd 3rd.thos worked fine. then drive.. but drive didnt work. it acted like it was in nutral. do yall think i totally blew my tranny or is it a easy fix? but 3rd gear wont catch till 30mph. what do yall think? have yall ever heard of the tranny and the rearend blowing at the same time?

rearend can take the tranny out easily. sucks to have it happen at once though.

did you drop the trans pan to check it and the filter? if its full of metal particles then its a good indicator that its fried. Id drive is gone then the metal shavings as whatever else if floating around in there will eventually kill the other gears as well.
