Clang after starting
2000 Silverado 2500, Auto 4wd, 138k miles, 6.0, iron heads, GMPP LS6 blue valve springs, 10295 Melling Oil pump, Full top end rebuild, 2000 Camaro Cam.
Right after the truck lights and wakes up, I hear this clang like a light metallic tap on the exhaust. Initially it scared me and I thought it was a timing issue so I changed some cold start timing settings in the tune to match the cam that's in it. (2000 Camaro cam.) This is so random. I thought I had it figured out and then it did it when the truck was off the other day. Anyway.. The diag I figured that would match the sound would be the starter sticking out, and then the clang happens after it recoils and springs back. (Not sticking On, but sticking out) But it did it when the truck was off the other day,..... ??? It sounds like its in back of the cab on the pass side like something is hitting the exhaust. Ideas? When I changed the startup/cranking timing specs, it seemed to help and it's still very random but mostly on startup. I'll see if I can get a video when I leave work today. |
Does it ever happen not during starting..............
|
Yeah. It did it the other day when I was pulling out of the driveway and it also did it when I was walking away from the truck about a minute after I shut it down. Its very random. Not sure how much longer I'm going to have the truck. I've always had a soft spot for these, but this one was a real disaster when I got it and I'm almost tired of working on it already. I have more trans work to do soon also. Random hard shifting and replace the pan gasket again. Mind as well do solenoids while I'm in there... A part of me wanted a project but now I'm paying for it.... literally... :bang: Just tired of it being a pos.. lol

check for a crack in your flex plate. it's happened to me a few times.

That sounds like it would be it.... add that to the list of things I won't fix on this truck. lol I tried to pull the engine when I had it tore down and the dowel pins must be swelled up and corroded because she did NOT want to let go.

Sometimes it takes a lil persuasion. Not much
|
Oh I had the engine picked up off the mounts with a forklift and I was wrestling it around pretty good. I could have tried a chisel between the trans and engine. I ended up dropping the front diff to get the oil pan, pickup tube and pump out. Wasn't the most fun but def doable with the front diff out of the way.
