Default Belt Tensioners

So ever since putting my motor back together I have been having HORRIBLE belt squeal issues. The stock tensioner has been replaced by a stock replacement made by Gates (I tried two different tensioners and both do the same thing). Even at idle the tensioner is jumping all over the place. I plan to replace the belt tomorrow as it is about a year old and have been waiting for a new one to come in but I'm curious as to if an aftermarket heavier duty tensioner might help some of my problem with the screaming belt. Ive heard and read not to use manual tensioners with supercharged setups but the only auto tensioners I can find are the HD tensioner from Magnason which has the big honkin bracket that is pointless on my truck with a Procharger and one made by another company (cant remember the name right now) that runs about $325, which is WAAAY out of my price range. Any insight on the manual tensioners is more than welcome or any info on other companies that make an HD auto tensioner that bolts to the factory location, or that has a smaller bracket. Thanks in advance!

Zach

Might want to check the pulley alignment and belt condition before spending a ton of money on a tensioner.

Agreed, I have a new belt that showed up today that I'm going to put on tonight to see if it helps. Only problem I have ran into with belts is the one I currently am running, gates k061140 is too short with a stock idler pulley and a 3.85 blower pulley so I put a slightly smaller idler on. The next size up belt, k061145 is too long with a factory sized idler and the 3.85 pulley. I'm wanting to run a slightly larger blower pulley, 4.0 or 4.1 ish but the 1145 belt is too short on those and the next size up belt offered by ANYONE is a 1177 which is waaaay too long. I just want to stop the dang belt squeal, it makes it embarrassing to drive the truck when the belt is louder than the procharger and BOV

Pulley alignment should be good. I don't have a laser to check it with but I don't know how or what pulley would be out of alignment. The noise seems to primarily come from around the alternator/idler pulley area. Alternator and idler are both brand new and have been checked with more than one of each. I'm also getting ALOT of belt dust build up on the alternator casing and back of the procharger brackets which made me question the stock tensioners ability to keep the belt from slipping.

I had this issue. It only went away when I switched to the solid grove style. The mini cog and serated grove style both squeeled horrible. The cheapo one works best also dayco was the worst and I even tried belt dressing that makes it severe after a few days.
