Default 99-02 nbs hd front conversion question

so from what ive read, all i have to do for this swap is cut the frame horns off, lower them 1.5" then reweld them? i just want to make 100% sure before i cut them off because im ocd haha

Its a little more involved than that

You cut the horns off and drill a hole in the frame so the bolts clear, trim part of the core support on the sides so the bumper slides all the way in, and you need to extend the brackets that support the bumper on the sides, I welded a tab to the ends.

The frame/bracket is offset a little bit, mock up before drilling (I suppose you could trim the bolts too).



Cut back the aluminum around here (on both sides), and the red box is where you need to weld an extension for the brackets:


You should then mock up the bumper/cap/grille so everything lines up, then weld the bumper brackets back on. IIRC the bracket was moved down 1.5", I didn't measure just lined it up and marked everything.

thanks for the info and pics! im getting the grille and bumper cap for free and i got a buddy thats gonna do the welding for me.

Do you have to move/remount the bumper mounts if you use the original bumper with just the HD upper?

If your truck is not body lifted, you absolutely have to cut and move the frame horns. Original and hd bumpers are no different, just the cap
