That's the one I used for my swap as well.

Has anyone tried installing this AFTER the trans was installed? I forgot about it and then the trans was installed and now can't get the damned thing in... Any hints or tricks? The guy installing is a GM trans tech. Saw one where a guy just

"Stab it to the right a bit of where it is supposed to end up and rotate counter-clockwise as it goes down"

But no luck. Any other suggestions besides removing and installing the trans with the tube installed?

If you remove the crossmember you should be able to move the trans around and get the tube in.

Yeah the crossmember has been disconnected. It’s the custom unit that one guy makes. Can’t remember his username. The trans is as loose as it can’t get without pulling this. It’s on a lift.

It's damn near impossible. The first time I pulled my 60e out, when I put it back I forgot to drop it in before bolting the trans up.

Yeah, guy ended up just pulling the trans again. If you undo the crossmember and try to point it down, the cylinder heads or something hits the firewall preventing it from going down any further before you have enough space for the dipstick to twist.

SO, in my experience, on the GMT900 trucks (maybe just my Avalanche), it appears to be impossible to install the trans dipstick while the transmission is installed in the vehicle.

Yeah - I'll second the impossible part. I did the same thing on my 4L80e swap - ended up buying a Lokar flexible dipstick - works great, only hurt the wallet to the tune of about $100. Yeah I'm a Lazy SOB haha
