I understand what you're saying. My problem is i can't find a 4L80e core to rebuild. i've call several shops and they all tell me that those are hard to come by nowadays. Kinda looked around on summit and saw a Hughes 4L80e. Any recommendations ?
ahh okay, not sure how familiar you are with the area, but my first two suggestions other than Clist would be:
* Brothers auto parts on New Laredo Highway. (New Laredo highway is the car yard alley. Its yards all up and down). You could probably look at google maps or search this road, and pull a bunch of names out to call or find websites. There's also a truck yard right here at 410 and 16, that is mostly semis and big commercial trucks, but I think Ive seen stuff there that would have 4L80s in. &
* Assured auto parts ( Assured Auto Parts | San Antonio, TX (car-part.com) ) - This is pick n pulls, they pull it yard. They have the 05 and older, PnP yard. (if you really want to try to pull it yourself, good luck. They do get 2500s in there once in a while. I know there are a couple there now, but didn't bother looking at the trans. Those engines and trans get pulled real quick. The 06+ yard, a big yellow building around the back. Then this third yard that the better quality vehicle (higher KBB value) ends up at. You will pay a little more for them to pull it, but they have access to a lot more than about everyone else, They get stuff shipped almost next day from their other yards if its not in stock, and they will give you actual mileage and a warranty.
It's all roughly I-35 and 410 on the SW (/S) side.
Thanks adriver. Found a 4l80e on the south side of SA. It’s out of a 2000 Silverado. Any problem bolting up to a LQ9?
No, issues. If the flywheel is available, take that as well. It has that little spacer that you'll need. Does it have the torque converter? Around here there's a place that rebuilds TC. Last year was $100 to get them rebuilt. Not sure if you would even consider a factory TC though ☺️?
I took a road trip to San Antonio and got a transmission. I swear, I looked for weeks around the Austin area with no luck. adriver, I owe you a drink. The sticker is gone but the metal tag is still there. I’ll guess it’s a 2006. Not sure what the rest means. I plan on having someone freshen it up.
