Default 00' gmc 1500 towing capacity ?'s

2000 GMC SIE 1500 EXT CAB STD BOX
VIN 2GTEC19TXY1389875
5.3 4l60 3.73 gear

Ive searched here an google an pretty much say close to 9000#. when i did the vin look up. says TRAILERING PACKAGE,CHASSIS PACKAGE,INCREASED CAPACITY CHAS PKG(Z85) does this stuff mean it can tow more. the truck does have a tow package, an the tow button on the gear selector. what exactly does this do? had a 5th wheel put on 5-7yrs ago when my dad got a 23' rv trailer 4000# for deer lease. its kinda small an thinkin of gettin something bigger for the fam. whats the most it can tow, safely? does the 5th wheel help any. air over leaf bags a good idea, thanx for all info

The Z82 Tow Package and the Z85 Suspension Package come with the Following,

....Z82 : TRAILERING EQUIPMENT.....Heavy-duty, includes trailering hitch platform and 2.5-inch receiver with 2" adapter, 7-wire harness (harness includes wires for: park lamps, backup lamps, right turn, left turn, electric brake lead, battery and ground) with independent fused trailering circuits mated to a 7-way sealed connector, wiring harness for after-market trailer brake controller (located in the instrument panel harness), (JL1) integrated trailer brake controller,Transmission Cooler and single wire for center high-mounted stop lamp.

....Z85 : CHASSIS PACKAGE, HIGH PAYLOAD FIRM RIDE......Handling/Trailering, Heavy-Duty includes 35mm Twin Tube Shock Absorbers and 36mm Front Stabilizer Bar.

TOW/HAUL FEATURE......
Tow/Haul is a feature on automatic transmission equipped vehicles that assists when pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavy load. The purpose of
the Tow/Haul mode is to:
• Reduce the frequency and improve the predictability of transmission shifts when pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavy load.
• Provide the same solid shift feel when pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavy load as when the vehicle is unloaded.
• Improve control of vehicle speed while requiring less throttle pedal activity when pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavy load.

Your 2000"....GMC 1/2 Ton... with a 2WD???? I'm guessing..... with a 5.3 liter and 4L60e and 3.73 Gears has the following Tow Ratings,
......Max Tow Ratings (Weight)......8,100lbs and a (GCVR)...Gross Combined Vehicle Rating of......12,000lbs

Glad to help......also depending on what your Towing Rear Air bags are 1 Route you could go.....I have Air Lift Rear Air Bags to help with Towing my boat.......I also have a On-Board Compressor and Gauge/Controls in the Cab......Its a Great Feature to have, as it Allows me to Adjust the Bags for the Change in Road and/or Load Condition's.
