4l80e with Transgo HD2

10 Attachment(s)
I literally bought this 3 weeks ago with every intention of swapping it into my 07. Cleaned it up, installed the Transgo valve body modifications (will include the internal springs as well if the transmission is rebuilt), and then found out I won't be able to use it in my application and bought an 03' trans. I was told this was a 96' or 97' model when I bought it, I later found out it is a 93'. The trans was very clean on the inside, very minimal clutch material in the pan and the fluid was cherry. I put a brand new filter in the pan and cleaned the case up some.

As was pointed out to me in the "picture of your latest purchase thread" this transmission doesn't have the bosses on the driver side of the case to mount the neutral safety/gear selector switch, FML. What would this work on? Early 90's HD trucks I'm sure. What else? I don't know. I'm no auto transmission expert and really don't venture out of learning about my own truck. Maybe someone else can chime in.

I'm not looking to profit off this, I just want to recoup my money and put it into other go fast parts. I have right about $500 into this, so that + shipping is what I'm asking. I don't want to ship this, but I have a feeling I'll hold onto this forever with it posted only on my local CL.

When I bought it:

Your Sure this will not work in newer trucks?

bluebommer07 03-05-2013 05:08 PM

It will work 91-94 had problems with cooling are something and so on then, 95-96 improved then 99 and up ts better as some would say. The yellow tag on the pass. Side of trans tells u exactly what year.. the first two numbers on the left states the year it was made in. If tag is blue its a dealer remanufactured trans

^^^^ I had to swap my selector shaft also,I think you could fab a bracket off the pan bolts to hold the selector switch.

Thanks fellas, I'll still sell this one since I already picked up the 03', even though I spent the time putting the Transgo kit in. I already have another on the way for the 03' to put in it. I'll research the longer shaft (no gay comments). :jest:

I was told the older the better with them?

slammedsilvy 03-07-2013 06:03 PM

I think some believe the older lube circuits are better. Some people believe the newer ones are better. Some like the 99+ for the extra bell housing bolt. Again, I'm no expert but I know I've seen at least a couple of the experts on here say they like the older lube design better. If I can't sell this in a reasonable amount of time I'll hold on to it and look into getting the longer shaft and fabbing brackets if my 03' trans ever gives me problems.
