will heavy duty shocks reduce wheel hop ?

I was wondering whether upgrading my stock 43000 mile shocks to new heavy duty ones could help reduce my wheel hop and traction when I accelerate. I know its probably just a minor bandaid untill i get cal tracs or somethin, but would it help a little? At carlsbad raceway a friend of mine with a 88 tbi 350 is running 13.58 with a 1.8 60ft.we raced and he beat my 13.89 run at 100.99 my 60 ft was 2.27 he says i should remove the clip that holds the springs together in the back plus he hates my comp ta drag radials says his mt dot are much better. I listen cause he runs almost .5 quicker in just the first 60 ft he does not quite hit 99 in the 1/4 says hes never seen 100. so i want to ease into figuring out how to hook up without compromosing ground clearance load capacity or handling.

Not really. The main problem is the leaf springs allowing the axle to wrap then unload the stress creating the hop. You'll need traction bars or some way to physically stop the axle from wrapping up. One minor mod you could do is to clamp/bolt the bottom helper spring to the upper springs, which will make it stiffer and hold down the wrapping some.

never seems to be an easy or cheap way out. oh well.

I have some serious wheel hop, and my truck is stock, no power upgrades. I want to get a 5 link rear setup real bad but don't know where to start, like what brand or what setup. I want to have rear coil overs too. Is there a kit for my truck? or am i going to piece one together?
