Default What's an '06 4.8 called

My buddy has a 2006 Silverado with a 4.8. We've been doing some research on a good set-up for him, but besides 4.8 I'm not sure what to search for. Y'all use the techincal names though, like lq4, ls1, etc... What is the 4.8 called?

Lol. No, he's only got 25,000 on the motor so he'll be keeping the 4.8 for a while. We've already made him a 4" CAI and re did the exhaust. He's got 3.23 and an open diff so the next steps will be 4.56s and a traction aid. After that a TB stall and hp tuning. Its the steps after those that I'm researching. Right now I think he should get a .220/.220 0.551/ 0.551 on a 112 LSA, a set of stock 5.3 heads p&p and mill them.

I went from 3.23 to 3.73 in mine and it woke it up big time. The 4.8 can be made to rock!

I'm not expecting his truck to mature and hit puberty or anything. A good stall, valvetrain, and low gears can be a good substitute for torque.

I definetly agree with zembonez. My 4.8 5 speed combo with intake exaust and 373 was right next to a 5.3 auto with exhaust.

those 4.8's are a dog stock, with a some mods they can be fairly quick. but nothing replaces more displacement...

Agreed on all accounts. His truck ia dog right now, he just wants to make it realativley quick for what it is now. He's planning to boost it when he pays it off next year and eventually when the motor goes he'll build a 6.0. For now though make the best of what you've got.
