what gear to dyno in ???

According to my calculations if I were to do a dyno run through 3rd gear
I would be turning 135mph based on my 32" tall tires, 4.10 axle ratio, and 1:1 transmission ratio, at 5800rpms.

Is this safe?

i think it would be safe but i would put your stock tires back on to dyno.you might have to do a second gear pull cause i think the speed limiter will cut you out at 98.just my 02

I think with my superchips tuner I'll have a new ceiling of 120mph.
I'd like to get a full third gear run at 1:1 ratio if possible as long as that's a safe evolution;)

I could not dyno in 3rd. Every time I got on the throttle it would down shift to 2nd. So I had to dyno in 2nd.

Most good dyno's should have a conversion for dynos in 2nd gear. That is what most high geared cars and trucks would use. My buddy has 2.73s in his T/A and was at something like 160mph trying to dyno in 3rd gear. That's all bad LOL

I had a similar problem with the truck downshifting into 2nd on the dyno so we had to start the dyno after 4K rpm. :( I believe someone said you can use the tow haul button to keep it from doing that???

I'm not familiar with this second gear issue, can someone explain it to me?

Is 135mph considered safe? or excessive?

Youll show more power using 3rd gear...if you walk in to it you will be able to keep it from downshifting. You should be able to trick the superchips in to letting you get more max speed if you dont mind it shifting a bit funny by messing with the tire size.

btw...ive run to 135+ on the dyno with my 22s

Which part?

There is no sense in dynoing in 3rd gear when you can easily do it in 2nd gear and do the convertion and it will come out very close if not identical to a 3rd gear pull :)

The only issue is with the truck downshifting to 2nd gear when starting your dyno run. That's totally curable if you have a tuner on hand but if you don't then you will have to get creative or just start the run later in the rpm band to make it work. I'm sure someone in here has a better idea though. :)

do you mean by entering in a smaller wheel diameter?

3rd in my truck is about 160 so i dyno in 2nd.

with edit you can set up your tow haul for the dyno. when i hit the tow haul the tranny shifts into 2nd at 10mph and locks up at about 15mph and stays there no matter what. it works great on the dyno and i have used it a few times while tuning some of the fueling in places(rpm and load) that you dont see everyday.
