Vinci cam for Radix
I'm looking for a good cam for my truck, called Vinci today and the guy recommended their Ultra Torque cam for my application.
"ULTRA TORQUE" POWER RANGE 1500 TO 5800 PROVIDES VERY HIGH TORQUE GAINS GREAT FUEL ECONOMY & POWER LIGHT THUMPY IDLE DUR @ .004" 272*/280* DUR @ .050" 210*/218* LIFT .551/.551 OVERLAP 48* LSA 116* I tow on a fairly regular basis, once a week or so, 6000 lb trailer. I also want some low-end grunt for off-roading, on the rare occasion that I actually do. But...I also want something that will kick ass in a racing environment, when I'm at the track, light-to-light, or on the freeway from a 75mph roll. I have the stock stall right now, may go up a little to maybe a 2600 or so, but not over that. I also want something that will swap into the 6.0L later on when I get a motor. I am planning on going to either a 3.00 pulley or 2.9 pulley on the Radix, so will be looking at a few #'s higher boost than stock. What do you guys think? |
Sounds like it all makes sense! You gonna do springs and push rods? You should.

Why don't you call up Thunder Racing and ask them about their CheaTR cam. I'm running it and it does very well. Only lost 1/2 pound of boost with the same pulley. Now I'm able to climb grades at 0 vacuum that had me at 2-3 psi before the cam.
It also idles very close to stock with a little tuning. |

I just put in the trucker cam with their dual springs and 1.8 rockers, I'll tell you how it runs once I get the new tune ;)

If you tow a lot,go with the "Ultra Torque" cam,with vacuum activated boost your Radixed truck should be able to tow without boost kicking in.I would think that you would be safer not boosting with a heavy load.

Sorry I missed this one....yes I am planning on doing springs, retainers, and pushrods. Got any recommendations?

I get into boost while towing when accelerating and when I'm going uphill, but cruising in 3rd at just about any speed I'm in vacuum. The only concern I have with the ultra torque is loss of top-end power. Although, I don't get above 5800 rpm right now. Maybe it won't matter. |

If you require torque off the line for towing and off-roading I would get the 210/218. No reason to go bigger unless you want a race truck. There is a trade off for that upper-RPM performance, and that is your low-end.....you can't have it all.
Your worries about losing high-end are unwarranted. With my little 205/212 I've got plenty of power beyond 6000 RPM's. Think about it - the stock cam has power up to 6K, and it's only a 190/191. :judge: |
