V8 SWAP couple of questions

Hey all, I’m new here, really gonna try to not make a thread that’s already been talked about but I’ve done some searching and don’t see anything too related. Yes, I’ve read the swap guide thread here. Found One person in a similar scenario, but the solution was to swap the long blocks only but I only have one v8 to go by.

so, I have a drive by wire 4.8 LS. It’s been a little project me and my dad have been building together. going to be putting it in a short wide ‘00 truck.

correct me if I’m wrong, but my options are either to A, go to the junkyard and get a drive by wire pedal with the module it attaches to

or B, get a drive by cable throttle body. This seems easier but the harnesses are different, right? Wondering what wiring needs to be modified if I go with a DBC intake swap rather than doing all the DBW conversion stuff.

i should mention I really want to keep it DBC. just prefer how that setup feels.

thanks for the help and point me to any helpful threads if I didn’t catch this question already answered.

You just need to put the DBC throttle body on it.

Harnesses are the same for the most part. You don't need to change anything when using a 99-02 harness.

I’m not sure what year the 4.8 came out of as I was given it by a relative, but seeing as it’s DBW it’s an 03-06. So what you’re saying is I just need to either buy or go to the scrapyard for a 99-02 v8 harness, and then hook it up to the 4.8 when it’s mounted in?

do I need a 99-02 ecu with the drive by cable stuff inside of it? I’ve seen there’s some differences where the newer computer doesn’t have the cable module.

The PCM that you have with your V6 will work.
Yes you need a 99-02 harness and fusebox and not the 03-06. It will make your life wayyyy easier

Is your V6 computer the 0411-style that looks like aluminum or the black box?

My 99 Silverado V6 had the black box, so I got the other style when I did my V8 swap.

had to go outside and check it’s a black box

is there an advantage between the two?

Yes that’s exactly what I want to do, make this as easy as plug and play, because I know I messed up picking this year truck with this newer engine but the engine was only $500 bucks from him and the truck was cheaper than what 03-07’s are going for. I like the bubble eye look a lot too! It already came with an HD conversion when I bought it.

Okay then since you have a black box you will need the PCM out of any 99-02 V8 truck. V6 will work as well you just need the correct one.

okay I’ll add that to the junkyard run, just the throttle body, I need the v8 motor mounts and a 99-02 harness. And an aluminum 99-02 v8 PCM. Thanks dude.
