Default U-Joints

Help my truck makes a loud "clunk" when I come to a complete stop and the again when I go. Also if I hold the brake and put a slight load on the drive line, then let off the gas it makes the clunk. I think it might be Ujoints so I bought 2 of them at Oreillys but the guy was a dumbass which seems to be more common at Oreillys now. If I want morons to serve me I will go to the local McDonald's. Anyway does anyone know what the part numbers are? I got Precision 534G and Precision 355. My main question is WHICH ONE USUALLY GOES OUT FIRST/CAUSES THIS NOISE??? Because I don't want to replace both if I don't have to. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if this is necessarily true or not, but I was always under the impression that if you replace one, you should replace both of them. Apparently, one bad one will wear out the new one just that much faster.

Sorry, I don't have any part number info. How much were they, by the way? I had got a price at Pep Boys the other day for a set and they said the best ones they had were about $15 a piece - that just didn't seem right...

Hey thanks for the reply. I was trying to save money which is why I only want to replace one. If anyone knows which one tends to wear out first please post it here. I don't even see how the stupid things work but they do... I paid 11 dollars for one and 20 dollars for the other so I guess either Pep Boys was right or we are both getting screwed. I think the front one was the 20 dollar one.

I just had this replaced under warranty for the same reason. They replaced the front one. Nice and quiet now and no goofy clunks or feelings like you are being tapped by a car from behind when stopped.

My truck was doing the exact same thing. I took the driveshaft out this weekend and put some grease inside the yoke. The clunk went away.

I have 500 miles left until my warrenty is up and this weekend the truck will be getting dropped off at the dealership to get the u-joints replaced, fix a speaker in the door, fix one of the horns that no longer works. At the moment that is all I can think about.

I am sure that after the warrenty is up in a few weeks that I'll be replcing some other crap too...

My tweeters rattle too but they haven't fell out yet. Has anyone replaced the Ujoints themselves and not at the dealer? How do you get this thing out? Hammer? Cclamp? WTF

Cashdude-

You're welcome, hopefully iy clears your problem. I thought I read somewhere that the updated one that GM uses to replace the old one is nickel-plated or something like that.

Brad-

Let me guess, did a tweeter fall out of it's holding spot? Mine had that replaced as well when it was just in for work.
