Default Truck has something wrong with it. Need Help

This morning when I was leaving for work, the truck would not start. It acted identical to the way it acts when you pull the fuses to reset the computer. Idled really rough and died. This went on for about 3 minutes. Finally it caught and ran perfect after it. Anyone know what is causing this? Thanks for any help.

mine did that once;
i would start it, then it would immediately die.
even if i would hit the gas and get the rpms high, it would fall back down and die.

Problem: Too much K&N filter oil; blew the MAF.
the intake sucked the oil through the MAF and blew it. that is what i was told from the dealer

Thanks for the quick reply. So I need to buy a new MAF and a new filter and I will be good to go? I'm buying the filter anyway, the other one has seen better days. Is there anyway to clean the MAF and reuse it? $135 for a new one is steep. Thanks again.

i'm not sure if you would need to buy a new one since the truck ended up running. i had to have mine towed to the dealership because i couldnt get it to run. i thought i had gotten water in the tank or bad gas, but apparently this is what it was. i wouldnt buy a new one quite yet.
if it still runs, then i wouldnt buy one without first checking with the dealership. if you do have a k&n make sure you put the stock filter back in. they saw my k&n and automatically they kicked the warranty out and made me pay for it due to "aftermarket product caused problem"

Check to make sure all manifold bolts are tight and you have no vacuum lines cracked, open or disconnected. Be sure any length of intake tubing you have is leak free after te MAF and before the TB.

If it is MAF related:
While the vehicle is running use some CRC throttle body /carb cleaner and while holding about 1500-2000 rpm spray in bursts 5-6 times and then throw a quick few revs to clear out any residual cleaner and test. Repeat a few times and see if your problem persists. If you have had any oil on the MAF sensor elements for prolonged periods you may need to replace it...

Thanks for the help guys. My K&N has been over-oiled, so that is most likely the cause. I am gonna check all the manifold bolts and intake tubing too. I guess the homemade intake can't be put off any longer. Time for a new mod

You might also try spraying some cleaner on the maf to clean the oil off it. I've had to do it and it helps if excess oil has gotten onto the sensors in it.

mine used to have that problem. it ran perfectly fine for about 5 miles. then i got to work and back into my parking spot and the truck died. it kept doing it. it would start alright and then it would just die. turns out later that week my battery was dead. do you still have the stock battery?

Get some contact cleaner with NO oil in it. Radio Shack has it. Pull your MAF and spray it down, let it dry and you should be good to go.
