Tranny Reccomendations
 

Well I'm currently in the market for a new transmission and I need something that will be able to handle a 5.3 cammed with boltons and a 100 wet shot. I'd like a 4l60e or a 4l65e, currently looking at FLP, Dr. Evil and Jag performance, but open to other options. I'd also like to be able to swap in a 6 liter in the future and spray a 100 or 150 shot on it. If anybody's got some advice be sure and chime in, I need to make a decision pretty quick so I can be on my way to get the truck back on the road, walking sucks :(

Also, I saw a post a couple weeks back with a link to a company that had 2 4l60e's, one was rated at 400 or so hp and was close to $1400 and the other was 500 hp or so....

If anyone knows what I'm referring too it'd be a big help.

How do the prices compare - flp vs dr.evil vs Jag?

I've heard good things about FLP, not a whole lot from the other two. Just dont go to Century over in Richmond ;) :jest:

Prices are pretty comparable, Jag is a little cheaper, FLP a little more and Dr. Evil a bit more than FLP, But all stay pretty close. I had my shift kit put in at Century in Richmond about 4k miles ago... :( Right now I'm looking at Jag with a possibility of upgrading it to a 65e, dr. evil street evil and pure evil both look good and the FLP level 4 might work also. Gonna make some calls tomorrow and find out prices and what kind of strength i need.

O3gmc... Is your transmission stock? did allen set your tune up for firm shifts?

no you need a 80, its cheap too, make an offer on the radix too, i can work out a deal if you want both

I'd just throw down and pay for a stock 4L80E and the conversion... 4L60Es are teh suck!!

With the mods you plan I doubt even a built 4L60E will last very long especially if you are spraying through the shifts.

If you are in a RCSB and in the low 4000lb range you might be able to hold onto one for awhile but it's only a mtter of time if you like to play. In a heavier truck I wouldn't even bother. Look at all the F-body guys that break their built ones and they weight at least 1000lbs lighter than us. :(

Allen tuned it for the Transgo, which I guess means stock line pressure and 0 Torque Management. I had them put in billet accumulator pistons and a billet release check valve from Sonnax when they did the Transgo.

Hopefully with a B&M cooler I'll hold out until I can afford a built trans. I'd really like to have somewhere local to do it, so if there was an issue they could fix it there instead of shipping transmissions back and forth, but it seems like there are no reputable shops around Houston.
