The total cost to swap to a 5.7 or 6.0 shortblock?

I'm entertaining the idea of doing a very cheap engine swap. Right now I have a getting tired 4.8 with 93k on it. I have a few ideas I'm still juggling right now.

1 - swap 4.8 block and rotating assembly for ls1. Nothing else.
2 - swap "-------" for lq4 or lq9 (still thinking here too). Nothing else
3 - swap "-------" for lq4/9 with 317 heads. Nothing else.

I've peeked around at going prices and it looks like either shortblock is going to be around $1000. 317 heads about $300. Then of course I'll need a custom tune, which will be what. $400-$500? Probably a new gasket set about $200 right?

I won't do this project if it's going to break 2 g's. Right now I'm flirting with it depending on what route I take. What are some of those other costs that will pop up and add up on me? Anything?

I know a lot of guys here have done these type of swaps. What kind of expenses did you guys come up with? And where did you get your parts?

If you shop you should be able to find a good LQ4 longblock for $800-$1200,then buy a used mild cam for $150-$200.And then a custom tune .
http://car-part.com/ here's a place to start.Make sure its a 2001+ 6.0

Thanks, you've done this swap before right?

I've searched car-parts many times before but whenever I do something engine related all I find is complete engines. Which would really be a waste of money for me. How would a 6.0 run with a 4.8 cam?

Budget build here. I guess it would depend on what price I would get the rest of the parts at.

Snap! And that's complete just burnt? Heads probably wouldn't be damaged.

I wonder why people have trouble finding things on that site.I would try and find something in your area that you could drive to and pick up,even if it costs another $300,about the price to ship. Now this one i found you ,if it could be shipped for $150 and the motor is mint on top other than the manifold then it could be worth having shipped.

While we are on the subject. How could you tell if everything was still in good order from a light burn or rollover? What would your suggestion be?

My suggestion is talk to the people that are selling it,find out all you can, get pics, post them here.Have you guys tried to find a engine in your area?Theres a few on the eastcoast,a few with no prices to call on.What is your location greenhoe?
