Exclamation **** Need a Little Help Please - 4.8 To 5.3 Swap ****

Need a little help please with the following questions:

How much increase in power and driveability will I notice after driving a 4.8 and now going to a 5.3 ??? Is there a good bit of noticeable difference? Is the 5.3 quite a bit peppier than the 4.8?

Is it quite a bit more power and a lot better driveability? The 4.8 has always felt fairly sluggish in my half ton Crew Cab, but I have never driven a 5.3...

Is the 5.3 quite a bit peppier? I don't tow with this vehicle, but would like to get a bit more punch, and just more fun out of driving it.

Is it a straight swap to just put in the 5.3 (or 6.0) and just put on my 4.8 accessories and sensors, intake and exhaust, and use my original 4.8 computer?

I've heard 6.0 gets 10 mpg, and the 4.8 and 5.3 get about 13 or 14 mpg on average. Is the 6.0 completely like night and day on power from the 5.3 ??

Any help or suggestions from those that have actually done the swap and have driven the 4.8 vs the 5.3 and the 6.0 would be sincerely appreciated.

Also, does anyone put in LS1 or LS2 motors in our trucks, and if so, what's the pros and cons of doing it?

Many Thanks !!!

Why are you wasting your time? If it has high mileage or is blown, then ok. But if you're looking for a huge performance gain, don't even bother.

Our engines are basically a ls1-2 engine.. They all are from the same platform, all parts will just about inter change to one another.. I would wait till you come across a 2001 up 6.0. A 5.3 is going to be a noticeable diff over the 4.8 all across the board. While you have it out you should put a cam in the 5.3, if your dead set on doing a 5.3. As far as the swap it is pretty straight forward. All plug and play

its not worth the swap unless your 4.8 is towards the end of its life..
stock for stock a tuned only 4.8 will beat a 5.3.. 250$ vs whatever an engine swap cost. a 5.3 has quite a bit more torque but horsepower wise..pretty sure its within in 15-20hp depending on year

There isnt much difference stock, but once you start modding you will feel the difference. I thought my truck ran pretty strong and pulled hard, until I rode in a 5.3 with the same mods. The torque difference is very noticable once you start modding.

Does the 5.3 actually have a good bit more real world seat of the pants felt power than a 4.8 that you can feel with a Butt Dyno ???

Stock for stock not really. I drove several 5.3s and 4.8s back to back at the dealer when I bought mine and to be honest it was hard to really tell the difference. I drove each one around for at least 30 minutes in real world traffic and open highway. I ended up getting the 4.8 because the truck I picked was in the price range of what I was spending. Now I wish I would have got a 5.3, but my 4.8 has always ran hard and hasnt let me down yet. Like I said, when modded you really notice the extra torque the 5.3 produces and it is the hands down winner. I've got 150,000 on my truck, when this 4.8 finally kicks the bucket, I will be putting in a 5.3 at least.

Can torque management be turned off by pressing the tow haul mode button?
