Try it and let us know.

i kept the drive by wire and most of the stuff off my 4.8, it is much cleaner looking, no egr, no cruise moduel. might have to swap to a cable set up. i will shorten the shift time hoping that the time it closes the throttle is less, that is all i can think of till someone gives me some more ides.
btw, on my last truck i took those "spark retard limit" numbers up to +15

Mine were at +23 when the trans popped.

I just wonder if you went to the mechanical setup what the computer would do. Say it commands the throttle back to 50% but, sees the TPS sensor reporting 100%. The computer might not like that but, I guess if you have the timing tables adjusted there wouldn't be anything it could do about it, or would there?

02denial .. check out what XLR8TNSS said about the TQM .. that should cure your problem.
The problem here is that the fly by wire throttle apparently has a mind of it's own. When the peddle is on the floor, the PCM is commanding the flying part of the throttle to close at certain times.
Parish .. I did some logging to see what's going on with mine. The only time I recorded the throttle closing was at 95mph where it pulls about half throttle up until 99.4 where it levels off to hold about 99.5mph. I did notice my timing is going to the negatives during a shift though. It will go from about 21 to 15, to -10, to 13 and build from there. I wish I had EDIT for my new truck to see what's going on with mine. I'd even send you a copy of the flash file to compare with!
I'm with whoever suggested going to SpearTech about it. Call them and see if they have any insight on this and how you can get rid of the mind of it's own throttle.
I can send you a log if you want to look at it, dunno if that would help you out though.

The electronic TB is driven by a stepper motor right?
It seems the stock computer could be taken outta the loop with a simple stepper motor controller. I'm not an electronics guy but, I bet it could be done easy enough.
I bet Harlan could make one. Harlan, if you read this.

If I had the problem of it pulling throttle in the shifts, I would consider it for sure!
Parish .. are you getting timing pulled during the shifts AND the throttle getting closed or just the closing throttle?

I think you are just missing a table that needs to be modified (unless there is something different on the 03). We've done the 02's and have no throttle pullback.
I DON'T think you'll need to switch to a cable throttle!!
That in itself would require programming as the TPS and IAC functions are completely different between the two styles.
