torque management
ok, some1 explain what the heck this torque management stuff is. what does it do, hows do it work, is it removable, etc. thanks

Torque Management is a way for GM to control accessive abuse to our vechicals. When you stall it up, spin the tires, and even on the shifts the computer pulls timing to ease the torque on the drive train. For stock trucks it only effects it slightly. I have noticed the more hp you create the bigger the problem becomes. You cant get rid of it in you computer, but you can pritty much trick it into never coming on.

From what I have read here on ls1tech, a Predator "tune" will remove torque management from the computer. Is this done automatically with loading of the Predator programming into the computer? Or does some selection have to be made? Thanks for any info! |
hehe...in a way, glad to see GM's having the same issues with the stupid torque management. Our Dodges have the same thing and it really sucks. The shifts are so soft and the rpms drop almost 2500 rpms. On the 03's there is a wire that controls this and it is as simple as disconnecting it. That is refered to as a TRM mod (torque request management). On the 04's, this wire is not there anymore and so far, no one has been able to get around it.

It's apparent on stock vehicles big time also. Yes as you increase power it's more apparent, but don't fool yourself that it doesn't effect all aspects of driving. It pulls timing, dumps trans line pressure, etc. There's also an Abuse Mode that pulls timing when you are moving at any speeds and over like 1500rpm. TqMgt is also how GM made a bandaid for weak drivelines as well as how they can meet CAFE regulations dictated by the Gov't/EPA. These vehicles are severely detuned in stock form, HPP3 just adds 4* timing accross the board, Predator modifies TqMgt and more timing, and a custom tune is going to be best hands down. You can dictate specifially what your needs are. I have NO TqMgt at all left in my tune, yes that's with a stock trans only equipped with a TransGo and Fairbanks billet servos. I FIRMLY believe TqMgt hurts the drivelines more than it helps. |

Yes very nicely. I change the fluid often at like 10K mi and it comes out nice and clean. I've had that TransGo for about a year or so, and TqMgt all gone for like 6 months if I recall. I need to get a B&M cooler on there before summer and that's about it...it's not 100% necessary as I don't tow jack but it's cheap insurance. |
sweet.. i have a cooler, transgo HD kit, and billet servos waiting to go in w/ a Nelson tune, that i'm gonna have him do in person so i can get the TQM taken out..

You gonna get Joe down at JAG Performance to do it? Joe did the install of my 4.10:1s and Eaton in my F150, his work is top notch and he's just a great person too! I highly recommend him for work. |
i'm going to have it done in indiana... i'll be stopping in san antonio to get the tune.. i'm going to be driving from indy to AZ.
