Default Time to cam my 5.3...

I'm looking for support and answers to spur my decision. I've got a 2012 Silverado 5.3 with an LC9. Cat back duals and a CAI is all I have done performance wise. I've done a good bit of research and come down the the BTR Stage 2 truck cam and DOD delete, along with a tune of course. Maybe a stall converter if needed. I'm new to cam swaps and have rookie questions (please hold the sarcasm until the end): What type of gains will I possibly be looking at to the wheels, and what type of low end power too? Pros/Cons? Truck will be a DD. Any information or opinions on what I should do is greatly appreciated.

That cam shouldn't require a stall converter as it's still somewhat mild and very good for a daily driver.

Power gains can vary a little depending on what dyno is used and how good the tuner is but it seems most guys can pick up 40-50hp easy. I'd like to see swap with stock manifolds just so how well this cam picks up on low end torque. With headers it tends to move the power band up a little.

Only if you want more from your gearing.

3.42's are great with some combo's but poor with others. They'd be pretty well suited to a blower/turbo setup on stock size tires because of the transmission gearing but say you have big over sized tires, the rear end gearing is not very good. Larger tires should have 3.90's or 4.10's just to gain back the mechanical advantage.

Or you can go with different gears if that is just something you want to do. They will give it more get up and go but overall rpms rise up some on the freeway.

Cams like these lose low end torque and move the power band higher. To make up for that you'll want a converter in a DD.

Or get a smaller cam, keep duration under 210 and lift under .502 or so, retaining your stock springs. Crane and Cam Motion and Vinci offer camshafts like these. No converter needed and they do not lose ANY bottom end torque.

Take note that your '12 LC9 has VVT which I reckon you'll be deleting unless you get a VVT designed camshaft.

When I did the heads and cam on my tahoe I wasn't happy with the 3.42's and 6l80. I went 4.10's and couldn't be happier. Also I didn't do a converter.

I use this cam.

You will not gain any lowend, gains will start around 24-2500 rpm. I lost 5 tq around 2,000 rpm. Cant say if there was any loss under 2k because the dyno didn't register under that. If you want to gain more lowend than you currently have, you will need a cam smaller than you currently have, or maybe the same duration with more lift. The BTR Stage 2 Truck Cam is a great choice. If you decide to go with a higher stall, a 2,400-2800 stall is perfect for this cam.
You can run your stock converter without any issue.

I can say what they cam itself made since I added a few other things during my install, such as ported heads and what not. But I currently make 364 rwhp at 5,900 rpm.

There is a huge gain around 3,000 rpm and pulls to 6300 rpm. I would set your shift points at 6,200 with this cam when you get it tuned.
Powerband remained the same, just more HP/Tq overall, with huge gains at peak.

Comp 54-451-11 and don't feel like I lost any low end. Stuck on a set of ported and cut .030 862s. Cam specs are 208/212 .554/.558
