Is TBSS intake worth doing without a upgraded cam?
Hey fellas, I'm currently gathering parts for a ls swap in my El Camino. I have a 5.3 from a 2004 suburban. The plan is to have a reliable car with good mpg. I plan on a few bolt ons, LT headers, intake, and maybe 799 heads if it's worth using the intake.
Now the thing is I already have the tbss intake, with above mentioned upgrades, would it be worth swapping 799 heads and tbss intake or just keep stock heads and intake since I don't plan on doing a cam swap.

The NNBS/TBSS intake is overall better than the NBS intake so it should make more power. How much is just application dependent.
If you could find 243/799 heads for cheap they will add a little bit a power with the compression ratio difference or you could just mill the stock heads you have now to raise compression. Milling the heads is far cheaper more often than not.
Just keep in mind some of the other stuff involved with the intake upgrade. You need an adapter to run the 2004 DBW throttle body if you are staying with DBW. The fuel rail on the newer intake is returnless. ( I forget if 2004 is returnless in the suburbans).

What do I need a DBW adapter for? The harness I have ford the motor swap is from a 2004 escalade that was DBW. Do I still need an adapter?

Now I'm sitting here looking at the wiring harness the guy sold me. He said it was from a 2005 escalade. It's red/blue pcm but I can't seem to find the plug for the throttle body on the harness. Is it similar to the truck throttle bodies and the tbss throttle bodies?

No, it won't plug in and work.
I believe you have to purchase a X-link harness to use the newer throttle bodies, then tune the computer for the changes in throttle body size. They run like $250 for the harness. The adapter plate is a fraction of that cost at like $25.

Ok, so say I wanted to just use the truck intake that's on the motor now, the harness I have from the escalade still doesn't have a plug that looks like it fits the truck TB. Is it possible I got a cable harness or are escalade TB different than truck and tbss intakes?
