Switch to 4.10's?

I have been thinking of dropping down to 18" wheels lately because of the weight of my 20's. However, I really like the look of my 20's as other people do too. I'm wondering if I should just change my gear ratio to 4.10's to compensate for the weight? Is there anybody running these gears? What is your highway rpm at 75 mph? How is your mileage and did it drop alot? Should I consider 3.73's? Keep in mind this truck is my daily driver and the vehicle we take long distance trips in but I still want some stoplight to stoplight performance.

If I stick with my 20's and change gears, I'm fairly positive I'm going to pick up some Mickey Thompson ET streets for the stock wheels.

Re: Switch to 4.10's?

I have 17" Weld wheels w/ 3.42 gears and I am also debating which gears to get.

I wanna make it a street machine without disabling freeway drivability. I would be guessing 4.10's would be a little too low :burn: for highway/freeway running :drive:, and 3.73's would be a little mild. So all I can think of is 3.90's.... ?

4.10s are ok for daily driving, i didnt notice a gas mileage difference from 3.73 to 4.10. just get the 4.10s, u'll have more torque, and ull be happy.

Another vote for 4.10s. I have them and they are great on the freeway and in the city. All trucks should come stock with these. You will be happy with these. Just don't wuss out and get 3.90s or something. I almost wussed out and got 3.73s but man am I glad I didn't.

Re: Switch to 4.10's?

I went from 3.42 to 4.10 and I'm very happy. My gas mileage maybe dropped 15-20 miles per tank, if that. At 75mph, rpms are around 2200-2300.
What I like about the 4.10:
-Being able to launch out of the hole, QUICKLY. Nobody has pulled me out of the hole since the gear change.
-At any rpm, you punch it, you go. No lagging or dead areas like with the 3.42
-The ability to roast the rubber anytime, anywhere. :burn:
What I don't like about the 4.10:
-Nothing.. :p

get the 4.10's you have a overdrive so it wont really hurt you that bad. if you dont like them you can always get a eager person on here to do a swap with you

Re: Switch to 4.10's?

i have the 3.42 gears and i get the " one wheel peel" which really sucks because you dont get traction, and it looks like a sissy burnout.. so now you guys have convinced me to get 4:10's w/ an eaton posi..
its a 30 spline 8.5" 10 bolt for my 02 RCSB silverado right?

about the 20s... i noticed your 20s arnt really the chrome look but more the sport look. i think if your gonna go the sport look then u definently need the 18/17s. however, if u do stick with the 20s, id get chrome with a drop
