To Swap...or not to swap..

Okay so I have two trucks. One is a 06 vortecmax. And the other is a 00 Sierra rcsb with a 4.8. I haven't drove the 00 much in the past two months, which is when I changed the oil, and I went to drive it and it was making a grinding noise. Coming from the engine :/...so I turned it off and checked the oil...no oil. Apparantly it has an oil leak from the rear main seal. Its still making the grinding noise sometimes. So I figured with 233xxx miles on it I would rebuild it or swap for an lq9. But the rebuild would include like an ls6 cam. Or should I just go big and but the 6.0 in it?

You mean the 6.0 from your vmax?
I speak from exp when I say don't swap your engine from your daily driver in to a non running truck lol.
Imo locate a lower mileage lq4/9 and put in the rcsb.

I mean find a 6.0. But then I'd have two trucks eith 6.0s. Just trying to weigh the cost to benefits. Mpg, installation all that

Dont waste your time with rebuilding the 4.8. Youll be $1000 in a $300 motor that could eat itsself the first time you crank it. Find a 5.3/6.0, theyre both a direct swap and you have all the accesories.

This!
Personally I'd go for a L33 (aluminum ho 5.3). Better fuel economy than a 6 liter, 100~lbs less, and better performance than an iron 5.3. IMO like the thought of buying an engine from a half ton vs a HD.
They can typically be had for about $800-$1200.

The alum 5.3's arent cheap... If its me I go iron 6.0. Gas mileage is more to do with the top end parts chosen IMO than the difference between 5.3 and 6.0. Not to mention, if you have 2 trucks are they both DD? Seems silly if they are.

I'd like one to be a drag truck lol but im having a hard time choosing which one to put my money in to. I'm leaning towards making the 00 rcsb a badass street truck and lifting the max

6 liter. Even just an LQ4 will do fine. Mileage is greatly related to your right foot.

L33's are a waste of money IMO.

Any suggestions on what to do with the 6.0 before I put it in? Cam? Internals?

I'm looking for a stong N/A but plans for turbo build later. I already have a built 4l60. I believe the sonnax sunshell and whatever else he had to replace. I already chewed up the "beast". I forgot to ask him how much hp the built one is good for
