Straight pipe power gain?

Just wondering what the power gain if any would be with straight piping my 2003 4.3 silverado?

I heard that's like 50 HP...

jrmchevyman 05-10-2011 09:32 PM

negligible or ~ 1 hp lol, not worth the trouble.

silverado1ss89 05-10-2011 09:59 PM

the best mod you can do for the money is an LS swap... not that we just have cash laying around to throw at our trucks. it'll actually sound like a V8, too! ;)

if not, & you don't want as bad of a v6 sound, get a chambered dual-out muffler & use some 3.5x22 tips (or something close to that size). it'll give it a deeper, truck-sounding rumble at idle/low revs

i ran like that (except dumped instead of tails) for almost 4 years & wasn't that bad. i actually had people ask if it was a 4.8 or 5.3

silverado4.3 05-12-2011 07:47 PM

well...... I actualy did it like a month ago but i didnt know what kind of gain i would have. I actualy think it sounds pretty good. has a low rumble at idle and is loud as hell above 3000 rpms. It actualy sounds alot like my friends straight piped silverado with the 350 in it.

I srsly lol'd

well if you're lookin for numbers, i remember seeing where an LS1 T/A with intake/headers & maybe a cam picked up about 10rwhp on a dyno by opening his cutouts to 60%

so i reckon that might put you anywhere between +1hp & -5hp depending on how good of shape your motor's in

why would it decrease the horsepower? I was always told more flow more power.
