Default spark advance????

ok i finally got atap for my truck actually i'm borrowing a buddies and i'm seeing upwards of 58 degress of spark advance is that normal and how much is too much lets say i'm getting zero knock retard right now and i want to add more timing till i do get knock so is there a point in which it not beneficial to add more timing? thanks

58 degrees and im assuming your talking at part throttle. If your talking about at WOT i think thats a weee bit much

at timing changes at part throttle are so drastic i dont really even worry about it. as long as you dont get any knock at WOT then your timing is fine. N/A i would shoot for ~27-30* if you are going to be running 93 octane.

yeah i was getting 58 degrees at 5500 rpm full throttle with no knock retard so would it hurt to add more timing? i mean could it still be beneficial or is it at the point where it wont give me anymore gains?

I'm getting similar readings on my truck-2000 5.3 I haven't checked the log to see if it's WOT. It's not. I just looked at a short log. I am not seeing more than around low 30's on even close to WOT.I haven't been able to do many wot runs because there isn't much pavement this time of the year I am currently running superchips tuning and HPP correctionS w/3.73's auto

most ls1's see about 28+ degrees of timing, mine has about 32deg.

Me and my buddy set his truck at 29 deg and it runs a lot better, without any KR. Add that to the firmer shifts we got from ls1edit and that truck runs like a completely different animal. we put the stock file back in the pcm just for the hell of it,and what a dog. i can't believe they come like that from the factory.
