Scoggin Dickey truck cam??

Is the truck cam from Scoggin Dickey a good cam for a 4x4. Is anyone running this cam? Would ls6 springs handle this cam? I have had my eye on the 212/218, but don't want to regret it and want more soon after. How would this compare?

cam specs:
214 218 .560 .562 111

Basically the same as the high lift 212/218. Will be pushing it on the springs. Good DD cam and would work for 4x4

I was looking at this cam the other day. I am also curious if anybody is running it.

Specs are:

214/218
.555/.562
111 -6

I am still confused on what exactly the -6 overlap means?? I usually see +2 or +4 but what does the overlap mean?

I will be soon.
-6 is infact the overlap...I have another thread started asking about the retard/advance.
The 111LSA makes me think the torque is going to come in very early.
The difference in this cam vs the "low lift" or "high lift" 265 is the lsa...low is like 112 or 114 and the high is 115.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the HT1 performs in a 4.8.
I actually wanted a 259 but it isn't produced in a "high lift" version, hence my choice on this one.

Its pretty much a little bigger version of the Hot Cam... Id try it.

I realize -6 is the overlap but I am confused as to what that means. Does that mean the vlaves open 6 degrees past where they use to?

RSTinOKC 02-09-2011 03:59 PM

Thats a good question. The only thing I know about overlap is that it has something to do with when the intake and exhaust is open at the same time, and that -6 is pretty "mild". I don't know if the specs are as compared to stock or what.

-6 is not the overlap, as you're referring to the standards that you see at +2/+4, those numbers you are looking are actually the advance/retard amount that the intake lobe center line is actually ground on. That negative 6 means that the lobe profiles are 6 degrees retarded (open and close later) than a standard cam without advancement/retardation in. Think of it as if you had an adjustable cam sprocket, you install the sprocket onto the cam, then rotate the cam 6* reverse the direction of camshaft rotation.

You need more information that what you have posted to determine the overlap.

Ok just read up on some cam theory and terminology and it seems that advance when ground in lowers the power band while retard when ground in raises the power band. I guess thats why most of the cams I see guys running on here have a +2 or +4 ground in to help with low end torque. It also raises the question whether or not this "truck" cam from SPDC would be good in a 4.8 or 5.3 when it has -6 ground in which is suppose to raise the power band therefore taking low end torque and increasing peak numbers?? Can anyone comment further on this??

I don't know where you guys came up with this cam being retarded 6 degrees.

According to http://sdparts.com/category/ls-gen-i...ormance?page=4

HT1 SDPC LSX Truck Cam 214/218 .559/.562 111 (CC54-ST1-11) Intake Center Line: 109

Looks like a 111+2 to me.

And as previously noted, this should be nothing like a the comp hi lift 212/218 which has a 115LSA with no advance ground in.
