Rotating upper water pump outlet
I have a 2001 GM truck LS1 engine that I need to rotate the upper water pump outlet clockwise (toward passenger side) 20-25 degrees. How do I loosen it and turn it without breaking the aluminum fitting. Once turned, I will need to secure it so it will not leak. Any suggestions?

I would look at gettign a different style LS water pump that would work out better. I think theres a thread with pictures of the different ones on here.
Maybe a competant machine/welding shop could/would do it? |

What vehicle are you putting the engine in. perhaps someone on here has done it and knows what you can do to make it work.

It's a '51 Hudson stepdown with an '80 Camaro clip grafted to it.

i remember seeing a pic of one being removed a while back and all they did was put a long prybar in it and pry upwards and it came right out.

the l92 (newer type) outlet is what you would want then. its fairly short and straight. im not sure what sort of sealant they use. the new pump i put in has silicone looking stuff around the base of the outlet. how about heating it up first?

Neil,
Here is a better pic of the CURVED OVER water pump outlet pipe to show what's needed. I think this may be standard fitting on LS1 trucks. It just needs to rotate outward 20-25 more degrees which will then align up perfectly with the upper radiator hose fitting. It's really in there tight and I sure don't want to break anything. Also, here is a pic of the car. Peace, Chaz |
just cut the top off and re weld it
