Default Question on start up

my truck is having a little problem on start up. when i start the engine it will want to die (like drop below 500rpms) however, it only does it for like 3-5 seconds. i have almost 94,000 miles on the truck. is there a possibility that my coils are starting to go out? the dealership didn't find any codes being thrown. i also had my injectors/intake cleaned out about 5 months ago so i don't think it is that. what could be causing this problem? how often should spark plugs be changed? i have the NGK plugs and i changed them out about 3 years ago. any ideas will help, getting really annoyed when i start up the truck and it doesn't want to fire up properly. later....

Does it do it with the AC on of off? Or does it matter?
It could mean different things.
Did you know that sometimes when the injectors are flushed there is a possibility the product used can foul a spark plug if a mechanic does the injector flush at a fast rate (in a mechanic's mind, time is money). There are right ways and quick ways to do an injector flush. The quick way is the wrong way if the spark plugs are not being replaced. Though if the spark plugs are to be replaced with a injector flush, you can flush the injectors at a quicker rate.
Try first replacing your plugs and wires, fuel filter, and PCV valve, then go from there. Then clean your MAF meter (be carefull with it), throttle body, and EGR.
That should narrow things down a bit. You may also have a bad ICV (Idle Control Valve). It may only act up only on cold starts.
See what others have to say in comparison.
I would not replace any sensors, injectors, or coils until you do the regular tune up items I listed above.
Let me know what you find out.

Jim

I'd try cleaning the throttle body and check the fuel pressure regulator for leakage. (fp reg is in the middle of the driver's side fuel rail...remove the vacuum line off of it and check for the presence of fuel. If there's any fuel in there it's no good)

I agree. NGK TR55's are copper and only good for 20-30K miles. The stock platinum plugs were rated for 100K miles, but I wouldn't run them past 50K. Start with new plugs and see if that fixes it. Should be less than $25.00 if you do it yourself.

same thing happens to me to....i dont think it harms anything.

try doing what carb engines do...rev the RPM's about 1000 higher than idle, then kill it (while at idle+1000). It helps carb cars start better by leaving gas in the carb.

that post doesnt make any sense.
there is no way too keep fuel in the carb. the throttle blades are on an angle for the idle circuit.
any fuel left "in the carb" will evaporate or leak into the motor.
the fuel bowls on the other hand.... hold fuel all of the time if they are adjusted correctly.

i have an 05 2500 and it has done this 2 times to me, both after filling up with gas.
crank, sputter in a hurry and die.
it then takes about 2-3 cranking periods to fire the motor.
i dont know why its done this, but i dont like it.
