Project 6.0 has begun! ***Need Suggestions***

I ended up buying a 6.0L, it's a 2005 LQ4 with 9000 miles :burn:

I want to toss a cam in it before it goes in, but I need major help with that - I'm cam stupid. I've learned a little by reading some cam threads, but not enough to know what will work best for me.

Here's what I have -

2004 ECSB Silverado (~4,800lbs)
4.8L - internally stock
Vararam king cobra air intake
Dynomax ultraflo exhaust with stock manifolds and cats
LS1 electric fans with Nelson harness
Wait4me tune
Transgo HD2 shift kit and vette servo in the stock 4L60E tranny
Yukon 4.11's and Eaton LSD
20" wheels that currently have 31" tires mounted on them

Here's what I have coming -

2005 LQ4
Pacesetter long tubes with offroad y pipe

Here's what I need help with -

Cam selection
stall converter selection

I want a cam that will make some nice power, but not sacrifice my driveability. I don't know what it's like to drive a truck with huge cam, so it's hard to say that.

I want to keep the stall converter at a maximum of 3000...I haven't decided on whether to get the yank or the fuddle converter. I'll need to know what cam's will work best with the 3000 stall.

Please try to give a little detail when you post a cam suggestion, if you just post specs, I'll have pretty much no idea what that cam will do for me. Also, I will have Jesse update my tune for the new set up, but I will have Allen do a live tune on it using my extra(stock) PCM. I'm not completely satisfied with my tune from Jesse...

last but not least...Thanks for your time:nod:

I've had the 212 218 in my 6.0l. After having that for a while I think it is a little mild for a 6.0l trying to make power NA.

I'm getting ready to install my new comp 221. I think something in the 220's in duration would be perfect with a 3000 stall. And, still have good drivability.

man ppl and small cams. i ran the GT2-5 in my setup before. LQ9 and specs were 222/222 .566/.566 112 with a TB stall that stalled to about 2900rpms

now new cam is 232/234 .595/.598 112 on XER lobes and 243 castings to help in aid with compression. ill be 10.9SCR and 8.12DCR. still somewhat low but when juicing it will work fine and really live up to the name of the cam TORQUER

About half of what you posted made very little sense to me

why do you think a cam with 220's specs is so small?

I'm not looking for too radical of a set up;)

PM SportSide. He had some very good insight on a reverse split that Im going to try.

sliderbkt 04-30-2006 02:47 PM

It's probably bigger than you want, but I have a TR230 Reverse split in the classifieds.

if i was in your shoes i would be looking in the 220-224 duration range to compliment the 3k stall and dont forget to get the tranny built as the added HP will junk the 4l60e

FarmerBeau 04-30-2006 03:29 PM

Colby, Im a lazy bastard so im not gonna find that pm that i sent you but, I would go fuddle. Its cheaper and everything is matched to your modifications thus making the most out of your setup. If i were you i would get a custom grind from Ed Curtis. He did mine and when i have my install party, you can see what it really does. ;) It should be Nasty! You dont need a HUGE cam like those guys. You have another PM
